On Monday, The World's 50 Best Restaurants announced its picks for 2015. The list caused quite a kerfuffle. Allegations of the whole process being rigged and chock-full of biased, non-credible voters flew. Essentially, the list is bupkis.
Regardless of opinion, unless you're one of the fortunate few who can jet set to El Celler de Can Roca in Spain (named No. 1), Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy (No. 2), or Noma in Copenhagen (No. 3), the list is nothing more than a string of names. You don't have to traipse the world for restaurant-quality food -- just make it at home. Dishes like Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi's silken hummus, pasta paired with yogurt and caramelized onions, and James Beard's strawberry shortcakes cost a lot less than a plane ticket to Europe.
