2015 Fall Obsession Predictions

September 15, 2015

The forecast on our food horizon.

We've spent the summer drinking drinks and writing and talking about them. We also really got into ice cream—and frozen yogurt. And then there was toast, every which way. So what's next? We have a feeling we'll fall for all the things listed below. But don't hold us to them—we're open to inspiration and frenzied in our obsessions. We fall hard, and then in love with the next thing.

  • Wheatabix
  • Savory cereal
  • Long-cooked tenerumi (squash leaves)
  • Fall shopping even when you're past back-to-school age
  • Domestic cider
  • Switchel
  • Formless dresses
  • Big pants
  • Fun socks
  • Orange wine
  • Concord grapes
  • Sancerre
  • Pernod
  • Hawaiian food
  • Puffed quinoa
  • Fried grains
  • Lunch

Get your predictions in; fill in this blank (in the comments): This fall will be the season of _____?

Has XO sauce already been a trend? I'm trying, via a Hotline thread, to get (the clever, always reliable) HalfPint's recipe!
Also, bay nuts are on my radar (and must-do list). ;o)

How is lunch a trend?

The trend proposed is to stop encouraging people to eat lunch at their desks.

Okay, maybe it's not a trend. I'm not a follower, nor do I care one whit about trends, so I just don't know. It's a good idea, however.

Food52 seems to love the #notsaddesklunch theme. I'm suggesting that their "defiant response" should be to the very notion that anyone should be eating lunch at his or her desk. ;o)

#notatmydesklunch (I just made that up, but you get the idea.)

Come on, Food52, take a leadership role here!

Just to show that I'm not alone in this:

http://www.careerealism.com/leave-your-desk-lunch/

Do a Google search "why should not eat lunch at desk" for many more.

Best reason I know, especially for anyone with career aspirations, is that in many business organizations, people who eat lunch at their desks are quickly tagged as "not going anywhere." Now why on earth would Food52 want to encourage that?
