14 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches Waiting to Be Eaten with Tomato Soup

November 30, 2016

It would be difficult, if not impossible, to name the greatest duo of all time—there's just so many to choose from. (My own personal list of contenders would include Calvin and Hobbes, Thelma and Louise, Joey and Chandler, and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.) Food-wise, some of the greats include chocolate and peanut butter (or chocolate and mint), salt and vinegar, and the ubiquitous pairing of the past three years day, avocado & toast.

It’s hard to argue, though, that the ultimate classic pairing is anything other than grilled cheese and tomato soup. It’s belly-warming, soul-soothing, quintessential comfort food, and we’ve got 14 types of grilled cheese sandwiches to choose from. Pairing it with the perfect tomato soup, well, that’s up to you.

What (or who) is on your list of perfect pairs? Tell us in the comments!

How about Pesto grilled cheese? Or tomato grilled cheese? Or Indian chutney? I have done some of these. Others look good as well. Give me a hearty sourdough for most. But a coarse I like a coarse wholegrain seeded bread with a gouda or muenster and tomato as well. Lots of combinations work great. It's grilled cheese after all. I also like to make a blend of butter, mayo and grated parmesan for the spread on the outside. I've even added some pepper or granulated garlic to this spread before frying. As you can see, I can rapture about grilled cheese for a long time.

Hi Lindasy-Jean , Can a Croque Monsieur be considered a grilled cheese? if so then with pommes frites and a Belgian ale. I guess that's more of a trio.

I think that's stretching it a teeny bit PHIL, but since the trio sounds so good together I'm going to let it slide. :)
