I see that the most recent comments are quickly approaching 3 years old - but setting that aside for the moment, I LOVE Texas. I went to college and graduate school in Dallas and loved all six years there. I was already a wino (although details are still court sealed) but that's where and when I fell in love with cooking and food. I discovered Food52 about 2 years ago and think it's excellent resource, My compliments to Food 52 for an excellent site/service.

I am happy to see this great group had me to dinner at Abbie's last spring, and I was lucky to stay with drbabs, whom I first met at sdebrango's house a few years ago. I love those glorious women!

Typo error: "say". Love to Arielle, Nancy, and all who make Austin a great town!

I have to say Austin TX is a very weird city. And they like it like that! I've been there twice, and the food scene is amazing for such a small city. Not to mention the live music everywhere you go, and sometimes on the street corners. But I wouldn't bother standing in line for Franklin Barbecue. Native folks took us instead to La Barbecue where the wait was not long at all, and where the guy from Franklin (they told us) learned his stuff.

I did the same thing when I went to Austin!—took one look at the line at Franklin and high-tailed it to La Barbecue. They gave out free beer and I met some new friends in the (short) line. One of my favorite (and most delicious) memories of the trip!
