The one thing it seems that all Americans can agree on is Dolly Parton. She’s a national treasure. The queen of country, who has spoken in favor of Black Lives Matter and helped to fund the COVID-19 vaccine (again, we stan), has teamed up with Duncan Hines for the sweetest partnership ever—beginning in March, home bakers will be able to stock up on Dolly’s favorite baking mixes inspired by her family’s favorite southern recipes. The Dolly Parton x Duncan Hines baking line includes two cake mixes: Southern Style Coconut Flavored Cake Mix and Southern Style Banana Flavored Cake Mix, which will retail for $2.19.

“I have always loved to cook and, growing up in the South, I especially love that authentic Mom and Pop kind of cooking,” said Dolly Parton in a statement. “I am excited to launch my own line of cake mixes and frostings with Duncan Hines, bringing that sweet, southern-style baking experience I enjoy to others.” In addition to the two cake mixes, the collaboration also includes two frosting mixes: creamy buttercream and chocolate buttercream, each of which will retail for $2.09.

If you’ve always dreamed of baking with Dolly, now’s your chance. Although the cake mixes and frosting won’t be available for purchase in grocery stores and big-box retailers until March, a limited number of exclusive Dolly kits will be available beginning January 26th. The kits, which retail for $40 (plus shipping and handling) include both cake mixes and frostings, a tea towel and spatula, custom recipe cards, and a note from Dolly, which I will obviously be framing with bulletproof glass. Next time you pour yourself a cup of ambition, you can have a little Dolly-endorsed cake, too.

Are you excited about Dolly's greatest gift of all? Let us know what you'll be baking first!

What does “Stan” mean?

Kelly V. January 25, 2022
It's a word used to describe enthusiastic fans of a person or product!

Really? Is there some reasoning, an abbreviation? Why Stan? Is there some logic there?

The word stan in the Oxford and Merriam Webster dictionary is defined as an overzealous fan. The wording of it in the articles title is in fact correct.

It's a reference to the Eminem song. https://genius.com/Eminem-stan-lyrics

It's a combination of 'stalk' and 'fan'. Stan.

That explains it! Thanks. But it sounds really negative, perhaps not a word Food 52 should use about their feelings about anyone. Creepy.

Agreed, it has creepy origins but like all words, it has gotten boiled down enough that a younger generation uses it pretty casually. Think of it like “cult-following” or “my latest obsession”. Obsession or cult are not historically positive words to associate with but they’ve been normalized in pop culture to make them feel that way. Stan is the same.
