Purim

10 Edible Gifts for Purim

February 20, 2013

You may think the season of gift-giving -- the season of cookies, of loaf cakes, of sticky caramels and candied nuts -- is long over. The time for dressing up in costume? So last October.

Enter Purim: a Jewish, end-of-winter celebration, a celebration of dressing up, of making noise, and of giving cookies, cakes, and candies. Whether you're celebrating or not, take advantage: the season of gift-giving is never over.

The suggested recipes look wonderful, but/and they're all sweet. Some years, I give savory gifts. e.g., a sellection of Persian cooking ingredients, nuts plain & roasted, an appetizer or sandwich fixings. Makes for some nice changes.

This is a great list, this year I am also doing a Tea Theme, I am making Orange Ginger Marmalade Hamantaschen and packing with a home blend of Chai Tea and Earl Grey Truffles.

It sounds wonderful.

Thanks for the suggestions! Just finished baking 3 lemon tea breads. I am also giving some very special teas, and a teapot to brew them. These will help fill out the presentation (especially those hamantaschen, they sound delicious).

P.S. I love that you featured Purim, it's such a wonderful holiday and a nice time to acknowledge/reciprocate acts of friendship over the past year. Would the eds. consider adding it to the choice of holidays that we tick off when submitting recipes?

Hi creamtea -- Purim was one of the holidays we considered for that list, but we had to make some tough calls in the interest of keeping the drop-down lists manageable. We'll keep this in mind for the future though.

If you search our recipes for "Purim", it picks up the term Purim anywhere in the recipe, including the headnote. We'd love to see some of yours!

Oh, I can understand that. Thanks!
