i want to make caramels but I'm out of granulated sugar. can I use powdered sugar instead?

No! Most powdered sugar has cornstarch to keep the sugar from clumping together. That cornstarch is going to burn and that's not a good thing.

Sadly, no! Powdered sugar doesn't react to heating in the same way as granulated.
