Agree about browning the ribs well first. My favorite recipe which I now wing based on ingredients on hand is this curried short rib one: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/curried-beef-short-ribs-10000001879978/. It is RICH, but good in small portions on rice with extra chili sauce and a cold, vinegar-y cucumber salad.
