Cinnamon gives me migraines. Is there something I can substitute for it, or am I better off just leaving it out?

I'm not a big fan of cinnamon. So I use vanilla, sometimes with some lemon zest, in apple desserts.

Ginger root is really good with apple pie too.

Thanks, HalfPint - I see your MVP win is well-earned. :-) Any suggestions on how much ginger root to use with this recipe?

Allspice and ginger go nicely with apples. Also a hint of vanilla, lemon, and saffron would be good.

Leaving it out would be fine, too, but I agree with the suggestions below.

Cardamom would also be a nice spice addition. Enjoy!

I confess I have never used cardamom in my cooking! I will have to try it. Thanks, MrsLarkin!

I think a little nutmeg or allspice would be nice. I would use 1/4 the amount because they are pungent and you are changing the flavor. Leaving it out will work as well, but I would increase or
add vanilla for a depth of flavor.

Thanks so much, Susan! I will experiment.
