Why do I need to add corn syrup to the chocolate in your almond thumbprint cookies?

Thank you. I don't think I'll run out to get the corn syrup for just this recipe.

Emily responded to the same question in the comments section of the recipe. She said, "The golden syrup contributes a nice shine and body to the chocolate without adding a noticeable sweetness in my opinion. You could leave it out, but the chocolate will be duller in appearance."
