If you have organic turmeric, it does not need to be peeled. The skin is very tender and thin and disappears when it’s grated.

I have some grapefruit spoons. They have a serrated edge. I have no idea where they came from but I use them to peal ginger and turmeric. Just one more tip for both. I wrap them in freezer paper and when I need them I grate them on a rasp while still frozen. Works great!

with fruit knife, like you peel tomato. Either using glove or just be careful, the color stucks on nail longer than on skin.

Scrape with a spoon. The skin is very thin.
In all honesty, my mother never bothered to remove the skin. She pounded the tumeric in a mortar and the skin pretty much 'dissolved' into the paste.
