A question about a recipe: Walnut Cake

I have a question about the recipe "Walnut Cake" from Mimi Thorisson. 2 questions...is the butter to be melted when added? also, i don't have a 7" bundt - only a 10"...I'm going to try using an 8" cake pan with a 3.5" ramekin in the middle - could that work? Thanks! Fingers crossed!

I didn't see the answers to the previously posted questions before I went with melting the butter. The cake is in the oven and I can already see that I should have creamed it, as the texture of the cake is very mottled and not as cohesive as it probably should be. Shoot.
