I'm halfway through the recipe (dough should be through its first rise), and I've realized the yeast I was using must be dead. Is there any way to...

... salvage this? Do a second knead with baking powder or soda with some additional flour

You could maybeeee dissolve some yeast in water and knead it in, but if it's already on its first rise I think it's a lost cause.

Is your yeast dead or did the heat from the tangzhong kill it?
