Why do foods with Vidalia onion always have percentage?

I’ve always wondered this working in grocery for a decade. From bbq sauce to burgers to anything with Vidalia onion, it ALWAYS will state the exact percentage of onion on the package somewhere. Just Vidalia onions for some reason does anyone know why?

Just guessing, but it might be a growers' association or brand-name agreement to protect the use of that varietal name (rather than, say, simply "onion" or "sweet onion") in finished products.
