Hey, recreating your cake and I was wondering if by 11/2 cups of sugar you mean 1 and 1/2 cups?

Yes, that's exactly what it means. 1 full cup and a half cup of sugar. It's a quirk of the way the print appears, and you may see it with other recipes.
