Has anyone ever used minced onions instead of salt crust on prime roast?

Learned of a technic where you can use minced onions as a sort of tenderizing salt crust; just wondering if anyone has tried this and how did it go?

I know some recipes that use dehydrated onion flakes to make a sort of crust.
For example:
Haven't heard of using fresh minced onions, and have some doubts about whether the fresh ones would work.
