Thanks so much for reaching out about this—and so sorry if the removal of the ability to DM through profiles took you by surprise! There are no plans to bring this feature back at the moment, though we really appreciate your thoughts. If you'd ever like to check in with us about this feature or any other in the future, you're welcome to reach us directly at [email protected]—we'll be happy to help.
Hello, I was not aware that DM was possible, so thanks for that. I find this site more shopping network than food community. Everyone that I have recommended Food52 to, has stopped using it because it is too commerce driven. As a businesswoman, I understand that advertisement and sponsored content are necessary to cover costs of covering overhead, hiring food writers and maintaining and growing the site. Food 52 is all business but deviously cloaked in “the online food community” blanket. I am sadly not surprised that they are seeking to cease direct communication between members. I would think that there may be underlying privacy and liability issues. I mean how many businesses facilitate customers communicating with each other. I am happy to continue using Food52, however I am fully aware of what it actually is.
Hi Wendy! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's very true that our Shop has grown in recent years, but not to worry: we're still dedicated to providing great recipes and cooking tips, and we very much value our community of home cooks—we hope you'll continue to use and enjoy our site for this!
I know I sound pretty stupid, nancy, but I don't understand. when I click your moniker, I am taken to your page. now, what is it we can't do anymore? mindy le bec fin
Mindy...there used to be an envelope in people's profiles which allowed you to email them. This was good for matters that weren't appropriate for or didn't require public context, for making personal arrangements, ensuring the person saw a comment or question, etc. The envelope is now gone, as is the list of members in the site map. Nancy
I used the envelope icon link primarily to send a brief note of thanks whenever anyone saved one of my recipes. Going forward, to any and all who do so, please know you have my deep thanks.
Mindy, I have no idea whom to even ask anymore. Besides, especially given the strong feelings about the demise of The Piglet (https://food52.com/blog/24937-piglet-tournament-announcement) I'm pretty sure this doesn't matter.
Very nice of you, b. I also wasn't aware of this feature, or may have used it a very long time ago to communicate. But it's a nice gesture to acknowledge peoples' interest in one's recipes.
