In addition to Gammy's good suggestions, further develop your skills and knowledge through:
College or trade school courses...online or in person.
Practice your knife skills on fruits and vegetables, for speed, accuracy and flexibility.
Practice cutting up cut up meat.
Master the basic sauces in the cuisine(s) you want to work in.
Good luck.

Follow some of your favorite chefs/cooks either on-line or better yet buy one (or several) of their cookbooks. Pick up a cookbook that teaches the scientific reasoning behind cooking such as "The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science" or the bestseller "Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat". I am sure there are other great books, too. Then using a recipe as a guide, experiment with spices, herbs and cooking methods. The more you cook, the better you will become!
