Frosting the Perfect Chocolate Cake

Have frozen the layers. Recipe suggests freezing briefly before frosting. Will it hurt to thaw and briefly refreeze before frosting?

Any reason you could not frost the frozen layers and leave the frosted cake either on the counter or in the fridge to thaw? I'm always leery of refreezing anything for fear of compromising the texture and flavor.
