How can I get the horrible chemical smell out of my sink protector?

I bought a plastic sink protector set and it works well, but the chemical smell is horrible. I'm on the verge of throwing it out. I've tried washing it, but no luck. Does anyone have an idea about how to get rid of the smell?

Thank you both for your suggestions. I really appreciate your help. I’ll let you know if either of them worked. For now, I’m just keeping it in the dishwasher when I’m not using it.

Yes to Halfpint. I'd try adding a cup of baking soda and a teaspoon of powdered Tide detergent and soak it overnight.

Soak in hot soapy water for a few hours.  See if that helps with the odor.
