Debbie Frost - if you read the recipe down to the baking instructions, it calls for two 1-quart bowls. Thus, there will be lots of space in a 4 quart cocotte. Not sure as I haven't made this recipe yet, but maybe you get an advantage (more and better crust, perhaps) by baking them separately. I suspect both ways (two quart-bowls and one 4-quart pot) will work, but give different results. Decide based on what pots or oven-proof bowls you have, and what you plan to do with the bread afterwards. And please tell us how it works out.
