what advantages are there in leaving bone in small fish cuts?

The only times I see an advantage to leaving fish on the bone is when you will be cooking it whole. or it you are just using the cuts to make a fish stock and will be discarding the bits afterward. It's a hassle to try to detect small bones in small cuts of fish, and just leaves you frustrated with mushy fish bits. There always seem to be small bones which get missed as well, and nobody likes getting that in their mouth.
