Whole fish doesn't fit in bamboo steamer

Question

I had planned to steam whole fish tonight, but the fish I got is too large for my 2-level bamboo steamer. Can I cut it and put one piece in each level? Or better to pick another cooking method?

I agree. If you want the presentation, you can definitely rig up something on your own. Otherwise, don’t sweat it!

Visually the halve fish might not look as great as a whole one, but yes will cook in two steamers.
For other methods:
2) if you have a sheet pan large enough, you could steam the whole fish - in vegetables, covered with foil.
2) Or bake in a salt crust (doesn’t make the fish salty - just delicious).
