Error in description of cups to grams?

The recipe says 3/4 cup butter (85 gr) but one stick of butter is 1/2 cup so 3/4 cup would be 1-1/2 sticks which is way more than 85 gr. My scale weighed 3/4 stick of butter as 85 gr. I was not sure how to proceed and decided to go by the cup measurement rather than grams since it matched the cup measure of brown sugar. Please clarify.

Hi there! Antonia James was correct, this was a transcription error, and I just corrected it in the recipe! It should read 3/4 cup or 170 g. Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention, and happy baking!

There definitely is a transcription error of some kind here.

Based on the ratios shown in some of this author's other recipes, I'd say you should use 85 grams. On the other hand, I've noticed from other questions on this author's recipes over the years that she seems to prefer using volume rather than mass measures in her own baking (that may have changed, of course).

It would be great if someone on the Food52 staff could reach out directly to the author to get her to weigh in. Failing that, I'd probably split the delta, to use 1 stick of butter, knowing that being off by that much either way probably won't make a lot of difference.

Sorry I could not provide a more definitive answer!

;o)
