Confusion about butter in the crust

Why does the crust part of the recipe call for “1 cup butter, 1 stick”? One stick is only 1/2 cup, so I’m confused about which amount you are calling for.

It would be nice to know what size tart pan to use!!

It is confusing. Most of the pie and tart recipes that I've used have a ratio of approximately 2 cups of flour to 1 cup of butter, so I'd go with one cup (2 sticks).
