Make sure the oven is preheated to whatever temperature is required before baking the cookies. Chill the dough/cookies on the pan before baking.

Might I suggest you check out

as a way to figure out the reason your cookies are spreading more than you want. You can identify the culprit most likely responsible for your particular case, and then work to address that. Although it's usually a case of too warm dough, there are other causes.
