Kewpie mayo is made using only egg yolks. If it's made in Japan, there is no sugar added, if made in the US, there's sugar added. Made in Japan is far superior. I get mine from Target, but I don't know if there's Target in Canada. Online is best bet, but you could also just use whatever mayo you normally use.
I just read the recipe, and quite honestly, for just a dipping sauce, I don't think Kewpie would be greatly advantageous for this application. Especially considering it costs about USD8 for a pint. Just sayin'

It's Japanese mayonnaise and you can purchase it from Asian grocery stores or from online retailers.

You could sub regular mayo for the kewpie if you don't want to add yet another item to your refrigerator.

Kewpie has more umami due to having MSG as an ingredient.

If you want to make regular mayo more like kewpie, add some MSG. I'd try dissolving the MSG crystals in some rice wine vinegar and mixing that solution into the regular mayo.

Here it is being used a dipping sauce so a slightly looser consistency is absolutely fine.

You can find MSG crystals at Asian grocery stores as well.

Best of luck.

Sam - you get it from Walmart or Amazon Canada (if you do online orders); also various stores in Richmond Hill and downtown areas.
See attached results from a Google search.
