Ug, fennel. Ug, Pernod. Substitutes?
I love everything about this recipe except that I am among that percentage of people who can't abide fennel and all its friends -- anise, licorice, Pernod -- in any amount. So can I just leave it out, or do I need substitute? And what might that be? Thank you!

But/and some recipes use celery instead of the fennel as a vegetable - about 4 or 5 stalks instead of one fennel bulb.
