Mine turned out brownie colored

I used Medaglia d’Oro espresso instant coffee and followed the recipe as written but mine are the color of brownies. Did I do something wrong? For my taste the 2 tbsp espresso powder is too much but I am wondering if what I used made mine look so much different from yours. Thanks!
