"Peel the pear a bit"? What does that mean?

What does that mean? Peel the top? The bottom? The sides? Half of it? That's not a clear direction.

As written it's not very clear. I'd imagine it's kind of like some recipes have you peel alternating strips off a cucumber--but honestly, I never bother with cucumbers, and I probably wouldn't bother with the pear.
