Almond paste alternative suggestion please

Can you suggest an alternative to almond paste - in the UK? Am willing to make my own. I love a good almond cake 🎂

I like the recipe for almond paste on the King Arthur Baking site. (Their recipe for almond cloud cookies - dairy free and gluten free - which uses an entire batch of the stuff is fantastic, BTW).

A warning, though, if you make your own: Almond extracts vary quite a bit by brand. Some are very strong! I add less than what’s called for and then add more after tasting, only if necessary. ;o)

AJ - good point about almond extracts.
Looking again at the cake recipe, I see it already asks for 1 tsp extract.

So I modify my advice for the ground almond-confectioner sugar replacement:
* Either omit the almond extract there or in the recipe.
* And, wherever you use it, in the homemade paste or the cake as a whole, start small, taste, then add more if/as needed.

Susan Carter - three options, all good, choose one you like or find easiest.
• use marzipan (same amount? In place of the almond paste. But it has more sugar than almond paste so reduce other sugar in the cake recipe by about 10%.
• mix ground almonds and confectioner’s sugar (each same volume as almond paste in original recipe, and 1 tsp almond extract.
• use recipe at The Spruce Eats site to make almond paste.
