Is there an option for the vanilla bean paste like extract?

Another idea - if you have one around (or want to splurge), cut open a vanilla bean, scrape out the seeds and add to the mixture.
You could also use the cleaned out bean in the braise for more flavor (but remove before serving).

Vanilla extract would work just as well!
