Homemade Chicken Broth Did Not Freeze

Hello, I made homemade chicken broth from a whole chicken yesterday. I’ve done this many times. I use the white meat for meal prep salads and the dark meat for soup with some of the broth. I freeze the rest of the broth for future use. Well, I placed the chicken broth reserve in the freezer last night and it’s still not frozen. I’m not sure what to do since this has never happened before.

A broth that has a lot of gelatin from the bones (easy to do with an instant pot!) will be more jelly-like when defrosted and cold… but it should still freeze solid.

Short of you adding anti-freeze to the pot I’m fairly sure this has nothing to do with what you cooked and everything to do with your freezer malfunctioning.

I’d suggest putting a container of water (the same size container and roughly the same temperature as the broth was) into the freezer and checking back after the same interval.

If the water isn’t frozen then time to call for a freezer repair. :-/

Hi thanks for answering. I did also make bolognese and froze both after they were brought to room temp for food temp safety. The bolognese froze just fine. It seems like the broth is more very gel like than liquid if that makes sense.
