Put the pomegranate in a bowl of (cool) water. Working with the fruit submerged, open the fruit (with fingers, or start with a knife). Break the fruit open in chunks. Once you have chunks, separate the arils (seeds) from the white pith….they have different density, and one floats.
Remove the separated seeds to a bowl and use as planned or store in the fridge a few days.
Advantage of this method- easy, little or no juice is lost or stains the prep area.
