A list, in no particular order, of what we like from a winter cocktail: spiced, citrusy, maybe creamy, and if not warm, then warming. No, not all together of course, but some combination of these attributes. And when you're looking for a drink to make for your holiday party (the one everyone looks forward to all season), you'll want to serve something your guests will like too.

Whether it's busy swirling in a punch bowl, straight up in a coupe, or just hanging out over a little ice, your signature drink should be something you'll proudly present to your friends (who will fawn over it), and have everyone merrier in the process.   • 3/4 bottle of gewurztraminer (or other white wine which is not too dry, or you can use even semi sweet one like Muscat)
  • 4 to 5 sticks of cinnamon
  • 4 to 5 cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
  • 3 tablespoons to 4 tablespoons honey (depends on how sweet the wine you're using)
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries (or cubes of apple if not in cranberry season)
