Red beets = immediate gag reflex. Yellow, candy cane, or any other beet is okay.

Describe your most spectacular kitchen disaster.
Recently I was making angel food cake. How hard can that be, right? The first time, I over-beat the whites so that the cake fell and created a crater. Having run out of eggs, (and how many frozen egg yolks does one really need?) I tried with liquid egg whites. Perhaps I under-beat them to compensate, but this version had all the lightness and lift of a crepe. Third time was a charm.
What is your idea of comfort food?
Celentano frozen cheese ravioli with butter.

What's your favorite food-related scene in a movie?
The final scene in Big Night, after all is more than said and done and the night has been an incredible loss. The brothers quietly enter the kitchen one by one, Stanley Tucci’s character first, then Tony Shalhoub's. They serve, eat, and heal in silence.
Who is someone you'd love to cook for, and why?
For my Grandma Anne, so I could hear her say, “Oh, Jude,” one more time.
