Last week, I learned how to Dutch Crunch everything (okay, I'm still limited to bread—but furniture: you're next!). And then I pleaded with all of you talented bakers out there. (Yep, going to quote myself right now.)
Someone please make a chocolate loaf with a matcha crackle—I promise you'll get a million likes on Instagram!
matcha milk bread turtles with chocolate dutch crunch shells . I've been dreaming of a matcha/chocolate dutch crunch combo ever since @food52 put out their request for someone to make it the other day - I imagined this combo would look like a turtle & today just happens to be #worldturtleday, so I decided to make turtle rolls & that is how these little cuties were born . I used black sesame seeds for their eyes, @myencha matcha & got some milk bread tips from my sweet friend, the milk bread maven @mightyinthemitten . Check out my snapchat (👻ful-filled) for the behind the scenes! . #whpedibleart . http://www.ful-filled.com/2016/05/27/matcha-milk-bread-turtles/
And Bella Karragiannidis (check out her blog, ful-filled) did it! She really did it! She made a chocolate Dutch crunch over matcha milk bread rolls (this is the opposite of, but much better than, what I initially requested).
Bella went above and beyond my crazy ask: She shaped her rolls like the little turtles their topping evokes. (And it's timely, too: May 23 was World Turtle Day.)
Thanks for making this ridiculous dream come true, Bella. We bet those rolls—black sesame seed eyes and all—are as delicious as they are beautiful.
What Dutch Crunch flavor combination do you want to see next? I can't make any promises for Bella but...
