A question about a recipe: Plum Upside-down Cake

I have a question about the recipe "Plum Upside-down Cake" from Mac. I'm halfway through making this and am wondering if there's a format problem - does granulated sugar go into the glaze as well as the brown sugar? Isn't there sugar in the cake batter as well? Not listed in the ingredients. I'm going to improvise

Yes, I think the sugar in the cake batter was omitted by mistake. I would think it would call for about a cup of granulated sugar.
