my wife loves gingerbread and molasses but can't stand cream cheese frosting. is there something else people would recommend? or is this nothing...

Most ginger breads (including this one) can be served plain , no frosting or garnish. If you want a topping, there are many choices...a lemon glaze, a traditional buttercream, a brandy sauce (like those served at Christmas), a dusting of powdered sugar, some fruit soaked in whisky, a creme anglaise, etc. If your wife doesn't like regular cream chhrse icing, avoid this one too..
