Anyone have recommendations for a good website to buy spices? Thanks!

Hey all, I've been looking around for a good website that has quality spices for a decent price. Just wanted to see where other people might be buying.

I have recently been using My Spice Sage at www.myspicesage.com. They might be just a little more expensive, but they ship for free, so my orders generally come out less expensive than other places that do charge for shipping. They also have specials quite often saving you up to 75% on some spices or giving away a couple Madagascar vanilla beans with your order. They are definitely worth looking into.

My go to store for spices, herbs & blends is Savory spice shop (I frequent the one in Princeton) but they have an online website as well.

I've ordered from the San Francisco Herb Company for years and years. Their price on saffron is the best I've ever found. http://www.sfherb.com

The Spice House at thespicehouse.com

I don't know where you live, but if you are in the San Jose area, The Spice Hound has nice spices and is a local area business.

We love the quality of spices we carry in the Food52 shop from Oaktown Spice. https://food52.com/shop.... Extremely fresh and fragrant. If you're interested in experimenting with blends then check out La Boîte for unique combinations that add depth to any dish when you're not wedded to a recipe (breeze is my go-to starter suggestion) https://food52.com/shop...

Whatever you do, buy very small quantities to start with, until you know that you like the spice offered by the particular vendor. Not all spices and dried herbs are alike. For example, although I generally like many of the Oaktown Spice Shop herbs and spices, I don't care at all for the oregano I purchased recently at their Oakland store -- somewhat bitter, and musty -- or their dried thyme, which also has a musty taste. Theirs is not the only thyme that tastes that way, so I assume it's the plant and not the distributor. (Penzey's French thyme and Frontier organic thyme don't taste that way.)
The same is true for cinnamon. There are now so many different types of cinnamon available. Some taste great for some uses, but not others - generally baking vs. sprinkling - so resist the temptation with the first order to buy a larger quantity. ;o)

I've always had good luck with Penzys. I think this is the thread that had a lot of other good ideas.
