Lime juice. Add to taste. It goes well with the basic chili flavors and is so sharp, it should do the trick nicely. ;o)

Could you add something bitter- like beer or coffee and some additional spice and simmer for longer (at least an hour, maybe two)? I put brown sugar in my chili but with plenty of bitter ingredients and I find the long simmer is essential for blending the flavors together.
