Is there a substitute for Nutmeg? My daughter has a nut allergy so I usually omit it from my dishes.

Did your daughter test allergic to nutmeg itself or to various nuts?
If the former, of course you can't use it.
If the latter, you may be interested to learn that nutmeg is a seed, and edible by many with nut allergies.
Maybe you have all this info but ICYMI:

Hi Karin, you may also want to experiment with lemon zest as to me, nutmeg has a bit of a similar flavor profile. Cardamon and allspice would be two other appropriate spices to swap for the nutmeg, but as Emma suggests, each spice has its own personality. See what you think!

Hi Karin! Is there a specific dish you're thinking of? Each spice has its own personality—but to me, spices are a really fun place to get creative and play around. Say, if a mac and cheese recipe called for nutmeg, I would swap in some ground mustard. And if an oatmeal cookie recipe called for nutmeg, I would turn to ground ginger. And if a mild cake (like pound or vanilla) called for nutmeg, I might call in something like cinnamon or black pepper or both. In all cases, the substitute doesn't necessarily mimic nutmeg's flavor, but it fills in the role in a new, exciting way.
