Is there a good substitute for the bread crumb substitute

What can I substitute for the bread crumbs which I don’t have? Could I use finely chopped walnuts?

In a pinch, you could use some crumbled crackers (the plainer the better) instead of the bread crumbs. Water crackers, matzoh, plain sugar cookies. If you use sugar cookies, reduce the sugar elsewhere in the recipe.

You could use ground almonds instead or just do without. I am sorry I didn’t answer earlier but I did not see this email until now.

Rolled oats or any rolled multi-grain cereal would work just fine. That said, bread crumbs are extremely easy to make. Cube up a couple of slices of bread, spread them out on a baking sheet, and toast them slightly in a 350 degree oven for about 10-15 minutes. Let them cool, then pulse them in a food processor. I do this whenever I have stale bread, so I always have a bag of bread crumbs in the freezer.
