Mud Pie Recipe Question - How to Make Chocolate Pecan Layer?

I've got a recipe that seems to be missing a step. Not sure what to do to complete the Pecan-Chocolate layer. It looks like it might be a flourless chocolate cake/brownie type layer, but I'm not sure how the ingredients might reasonably come together. Suggestions welcome! https://www.foodandwine...

In the photo, it looks like the pecans and other ingredients are blended together into a layer that looks almost like fudge. I think I’d heat the chocolate, cream, corn syrup and butter gently till the chocolate melts. Then I’d fold in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt, and then stir in the pecans. I’d layer that on top of the crust and let it cool before layering on the ice cream. (Layering in the ice cream is also missing from the recipe instructions!) The good thing is that ice cream pies are pretty forgiving and always delicious, so however you make it, I’m sure it will be great.

Yes, good catch, drbabs - the chocolate should be melted as you suggest. I'd actually freeze the crust + chocolate pecan layer before adding the ice cream, to keep the ice cream from melting, which will happen if the layer below it is not frozen, or at least extremely well chilled. ;o)

After toasting the pecans, I would coarsely chop them. I'd mix together all of the other ingredients listed for that layer, and then add the pecans. I'd then proceed as instructed.

Let us know how that turns out. It looks delicious! ;o)
