Hi! This isn't a super-thick stew, but Step 4 will aid in thickening. You remove the lid and use a potato masher to mostly crush the beans, which will thicken the stew. (Keep in mind that as noted in the recipe, you'll need to cook the stew on high for 3 to 4 hours, or on low for 5 to 6 hours first.)
