Butter and brown sugar separated

Does anyone know how I can keep the butter and brown sugar together? I had it on the stove for a while but it wasn't mixing together at all.

Sorry about that, it usually comes together once the two ingredients are the same temp and liquified, but if they are a little bit separated, I think you can still succeed at making the cake.
