How to make the cookies so dark?

My guess is that the photo you posted is not representative of the actual result: it’s too dark.

This recipe dates from 2010 and poor digital photography from amateurs was pretty common. All three photos appear to have different color issues. I’m willing to guess that the actual baked good looks more like something between the second and third photos.

The first photo is clearly too dark based on the fabric tone.
