I think it might be a bit tricky. Dividing things by half means you will need 3/8 cup of milk, and then there is the trouble with the eggs. Three eggs don't divide into halves. I would recommend making the full recipe, and freezing one cake. Yes, you can bake it in the 9x9 pan just fine. Be sure to turn it at the half way baking point. Though if I am truly honest, I would have to recommend giving this a miss. I've made it twice, and the taste- yeah, a bit "vegetal" married to tart. The color is okay, but it isn't the bakery kind of red folks expect these days.
