Can you just add rolled oats to cookies or bars or do you have to adjust the recipe?

Making blondies - can I just add rolled oats or do I need to increase liquid or decrease flour, or anything else? Are there rules about this?? Thank you!

Jessica - if not too late to help. Or for next time you make blondies.

My Food Substitutions Bible (David Joachim, 2005) recommends using rolled oats as 1:1 SUBSTITUTION for part of the flour in your original recipe. That will add texture and nutrition, but not disturb the ratios in the blondies.

If you ADD oats, yes you'd probably need more water but that will disturb the baking ratios.

Last suggestion, use a recipe that is already built with oats in it.
