Hi Jolarson1671!
I agree with KLS that honestly the difference in nutritional value of ricotta and cottage cheese is not super significant. But in case it was all you had on hand, I think cottage cheese would be an awesome swap! Though I'd maybe try to drain off a bit of moisture in a fine mesh strainer, cottage cheese is typically a bit more creamy.
Hope this helps!

I don't think it's necessary. Just for the heck of it, I checked calories for ricotta and cottage cheese. Check this out:
Ricotta Cottage Cheese (calories are per one fluid ounce)
Whole Milk 25 27.5
Skim 2% Milk 20 22
1% Milk no product 21.25
They're close enough that I don't think it would change the fat content of the dish by very much.
The quantity is only 1/3 cup or 2.66 ounces.
I'd actually be more concerned about the pesto if fat content is your concern. If you're more concerned about cholesterol, I don't think it's that significant with the amount used. Also, good luck finding whole milk ricotta - it's rare.
Let us know how it turns out.
